review 1: I almost feel guilty for enjoying such a disturbing tale, but having made it through Billy Childish’s autobiography ‘My Fault’, the emotional callouses were already there. The sheer originality of this story makes up for the obvious plot holes, inconsistencies and constant chronological jumps. To me each chapter seems like it was written almost as an independent short stories, and then mended together later. Auerbach was able to achieve the same credibility of writing as a young boy recounting his past later in life as Joe R. Lansdale did in ‘The Bottoms’. Again, it is a fresh idea, that doesn’t fall apart at the end, and I would highly recommend this to a friend review 2: I had my doubts before reading. Thinking of the creepy pastas that are out... more there on the reddit community, I had assumed it was going to be a bit on the corny side. I WAS WRONG. The book doesn't scare you, it creeps you out. And it doesnt do it right off the bat, no, it subtley creeps up on you. Once you get the inkiling of something wrong it doesn't go away. Instead it grows until the very end where it thouroughly gives the chills! Greatly enjoyed this one and recommend it! less
