review 1: The underworld controls everything. This book is one of the best books I've read this year. Following the Protagonist Aaron Fellhorn through the book is enthralling, I couldn't put the book down. Aaron was faced with much opposition, even from his father Thren who was trying to mold Aaron into the perfect killer. During his studies Aaron meets a tutor named Hearn. Hearn is later killed but not before plating a seed of doubt in Aaron's mind. The way this is set up in the beginning chapters sets the tone for the whole book. I'm very rarely so into a series that I can't wait to read the next book, and this book has done just that.
review 2: Veldaren is a city ruled by the many guilds who use bloody violence to torment governments and citizens to submission. Thren
... moreFelhorn, leader of the Spider Guild, raises his son Aaron to be an heir, a master killer and living legacy of his father. But will Aaron take to the cruel ways of his father's guild? This is the beginning of the Shadowdance series, an amazing combination of fantasy and "Batman-like" storyline which never fails to deliver stunning battles and frightening twists. Throughout the series a great deal of development takes place, between characters, relationships, and settings. This is a fantasy for fantasy readers. less

A great crime story wrapped in a tattered cloak of fantasy.
