review 1: 2011: FWFTB: Venice, canal, aunt, dog, masks. If you are expecting Nic Costa to feature in this book - don't. This is all about the pathologist. The plot device of a story, within a tale, within a fable makes for a very languorous and slow moving story at odds with the supposed brightness and revelry of the Carnival. Nicely done and very intriguing. I don't think there is any way that this is a who-dun-it more of a why-dun-it with a faint thread of the supernatural. Recommended to the crime fans in the normal crew
review 2: I am a big Hewson fan but this book--a little less. He captures the beauty and noir of Venice during Carneval. Teresa Lupo the forensic pathologist for the Roman police gets a call from her mother Chiara--Chiara's sister Sofia is missing in
... more Venice and both women are worried. They hasten to Venice to look for Sofia. The story proceeds along with twists and turns. But this novel is divided into recurring parts (letters; future action) which were difficult for me to follow. less
