review 1: This book is one of my favorites. I am currently rereading this book as I write this. The blip on the back of the book does not do the writing of this author justice. The moment you pick up the book you will be gripped by the plight of the main character and her tragic history. As the story continues you will find yourself drinking in every twist and plot point that illuminates the importance of every incident that happened in her tragic past. By the time you are finished you will find yourself attached to a surprisingly strong female character. Surprising not because she is female but because of how far she comes from where she starts at the beginning of the book. This is the kind of book that paying attention to the details as you read will make a difference. There were ... moretimes while reading that I doubled back to read the description of a room or person. The details also make this a joy to reread. While you will remember the plot of the book well when rereading it you will find yourself remembering the details that made it a joy in the first place.
review 2: Finally got around to reading this ARC that had been sitting on my bookshelf the last few years. A nice change of pace from the Drizzt books I've been loving and devouring, this tale weaves revenants, a secret society and anti-industrial leanings into a charming romantic tale, with William Blake and Lord Byron appearing as secondary characters.My complaint is that there is no reason given why Lucy is targeted by these supernatural creatures or why she is the only one who can save the world. less
