review 1: You'll be challenged to change your lifestyle for Christ. Pastor Platt drives home several great points. I won't spoil it for you but I can say a few things. He will set the stage for you to view yourself and God in another manner. He'll compel you to "radically" change how you are fulfilling your mission for Christ. Pastor Platt encourages the reader to take the Gospel to the 6,000 people groups (totally several billion people) that have never heard of Jesus. I will need to read this book again to gain more insight.
review 2: “Radical Together” is a rather small book with a rather large impact. Simply put, Platt makes the appeal that the people of God simply need to trust the power of God in their lives rather than chasing the American dream. The be
... moreautiful premise of this book is that we do not have to make this trade alone; rather, we can be radical together, as a church, unified in vision and purpose. The book is divided into six key ideas to break traditional viewpoints and reestablish Biblical foundations. The first key point states that “one of the worst enemies of Christians can be good things in the church.” Have we subtly traded the great things of God for the good things that are convenient. The themes continue in this vein, challenging that the church is engaged in activities that may not be the best and greatest good of the Kingdom. One of the more challenging quotes in the book comes from the fifth chapter: “I am convinced that Satan, in a sense, is just fine with missional churches in the West spending the overwhelming majority of our time, energy, and money on trying to reach people right around us. Satan may actually delight in this, for while we spend our lives on the people we see in front of us, more than six thousand people groups for generations have never even heard the gospel and reamin in the dark.”If you feel like you have been occupying your time and energy on good things rather than great things, “Radical Together” is the book for you. If you feel you have made the shift away from people and into programs, “Radical Together is the book for the you.” I believe this is a book that should be read by every church leader, and, with the discussion guides in the book, it would make a great study for lay people as well. Either way, “Radical Together” is for you. Please note that Waterbrook Multnomah gave me a free copy of this book for my honest opinion. I was in no way pressured to give a positive review of the above material. less
