review 1: This was a fascinating nonfiction read with tons of primary source documents and first person accounts. The stories included throughout this book really hit home how horrible the Titanic tragedy was and made me understand this historical event on a new level. Several discussions are presented on whether the sinking could have been prevented and/or if more people could have been saved. It truly is the "voices" that are represented here that make this book unique. I think my students in 5th-8th grade would find this intriguing and learn a great deal.

Hopkinson not only provides the facts, but makes sure to provide actual infor... moremation about passengers and pictures of the boat. It is clear that she did extensive research to prepare for the book. Hopkinson gathered information about passengers and crew that worked on the boat, as well as information from each stage of Titanic's journey and preparation. She is able to give readers detailed information so that they can better understand how and why the boat sank. For anyone interested in learning more about this magnificent ship, this is a must read. Although most people know that the boat hit an ice berg and sank, they do not know other true key details about the boat's short life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and feel as if I better understand a key event in our history. less
