review 1: I'm glad I didn't read the reviews on this book before I bought it. Some of the reviews here are a bit too harsh. I'm a Christian and I can tell you that, as a Christian, I did not find this book obscene or dirty in any way. This is a good clean romance. I love the fact the Deeanne puts so much work into her research for her books! The details really make the story believable and helps you step into the story. I enjoyed Billy and Hunter's story, along with the other character's like Derry. As usual this book was well written. Some reviewers have complained about the scene in the beginning of the book with Billy examining Hunter. They said it was dirty and embarrassing to read. I have to disagree, there's nothing dirty about that scene. It's real. I did feel embarrassed, du... moree to Gist's great writing. You feel embarrassed for Hunter. That's what a great writer does, they make you feel for the character. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance/fiction and to anyone who is Christian.
review 2: I enjoyed the glimpse back into 1893 and its social issues. Gist says in the authors notes that she wanted to hit the hot topics of that era, including a woman's place in society, the rights of children, the rights of the underprivileged, the drinking age, working hours, housing conditions, immigrant workers, prejudices, and juvenile delinquency (pg. 438). Though she is known to include spiritual content, I was surprised to read a few "hot and heavy" scenes. The characters did wait until marriage to indulge, but some may be uncomfortable with a few of these scenes. I prefer a little less of the passion about each other and a little deeper spiritual insight. Regardless, I enjoyed the historical aspect of it all, and it included some humor, danger, suspense, and romance. less
