review 1: Loved this book! Not only was the setting great (The Biltmore House and nearby Asheville, NC in the late 19th century), this was well-written and had a great ending. Tillie is a maid at the estate, and is working toward becoming Mrs. Vanderbilt's Lady's Maid. But, good-looking and charming Mack Danver comes into her life, working as the "useful man" at the Estate. He doesn't want to be there, but has taken the job so he can get his younger sister out of a bad living situation at a local orphanage. Mack falls hard for Tillie, and over time, she comes to realize her feelings for him. But, getting together with Mack will get in the way of her dreams to be a Lady's Maid. The mutual attraction between the two is palpable, and Gist keeps her descriptions clean but moving. The ch... morearacters are very easy to relate to and love. If you've visited Biltmore, you'll love reading about the house. If you haven't been, it's every bit as majestic, yet inviting, as Gist describes.

Well written. Not too flowery. Sweet love story and the struggle of achieving your dreams.
