review 1: The thing that rubbed me the wrong way with this book was Lucious saying over and over how tiny and cute and baby like Georgie was. There was something about the way this was brought up so frequently it was as though the most important thing in this book was to tell the reader that the merit of a female was her ability to appear babylike and tiny. Yuk. The central character had few likable characteristics except being petite and turning Luke on. That just doesn't make a good novel for me.

... morestory is based on historical fact. Because I live in North Carolina, the phenomenal accounts of the Passenger Pigeon migrations and how that species was wiped out are always a lost treasure I am sorry to have missed. We still struggle with bird preservation issues here because we have wonderful migratory bird habitats as well as hunters and military land use issues. Georgie may not have been a realistic character for her time but I wish she had been. I wonder if the details of the hats are true or just a prop to spin a good yarn. less
