review 1: "Her Only Desire" is unlike most erotic/romance novels because it is an extremely well written erotic mystery that actually has substance. The chemistry between Boone & Tilly is not only believable but palpable. Both characters are well defined and in their own ways interesting. I personally am not a big fan of BDSM aspect but I consider myself to open minded when it comes to books so this is not my first foray into the genre. The reason I mention this is because although this is not my cup of tea I do believe that Delilah Devlin did an impeccable job balancing the BDSM element for both fans of this aspect and those who might not be educated or aware of the matter. I do have to say that the official synopsis is definitely misleading. Its not lying about anything but it doe... mores lead potential readers to believe that "Her Only Desire" is going to be a lot more heavy handed when it comes to the whole BDSM thing. I honestly would have given this book 5 stars but there where two things that I disliked about the book. The first was that even though Boone knows he wants Tilly he and his second in command still have sex with some blonde chick. Honestly that pissed me off... A lot! The only thing I could think of to rationalize this was that this scene was used to give readers a glimpse into Boone's mind and show this side of his sexual appetite. And while I will acknowledge that Tilly and Boone where not together at the time it still felt wrong to me. I guess the author did her job extremely well because my emotions where invested. The second problem I had was that the resolution to the story wrapped up a bit quick. It wasn't out of no where or contrived but it did seem a bit fast considering the pace of the book. Overall this was a surprisingly hot and pleasant read that managed to keep the mystery and intrigue going until the very end. *NetGalley provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
review 2: DNF at 40%Very shallow and formulaic light-BDSM. I didn't realize it was supposed to be D/s before I started reading, and, for the most part, I'm just *so* over this sub genre of erotic romance. It has to be really unique to hold my interest, and this most definitely was not.By the way, this is promoted as a series for fans of Sylvia Day and/or EL James. I went through my *very* brief 50 Shades fangirl moment when it was first pulled from fanfic and published, but that is long over. So, comparing something to EL James or 50 Shades means next to nothing to me, personally. HOWEVER, I adore Sylvia Day, and this book has no place being compared to hers! Sylvia Day is far superior. less
