review 1: What a great first book in a series!This was a really packed new series. The world that Ms. Francis has built is complicated and intricate. The characters are so dimensional and really well developed. I have to say that this was not predictable. I read a lot of books and usually I can figure out what path the author is going to take and am usually bored the last 1/2 of the book. This book kept me guessing and engaged. I wasn't sure where Max was going to go or what she was going to do next.This is a great start to a new series and I can't wait to see where it goes from here!
review 2: Hmmmmm... I have mixed feelings about this book.The bits that were good were... really good. But there was too much that just didn't fit for me worldbuilding-wise, points where th... moree plot felt... clunky... and the characters didn't really draw me in until a good third of the way or so through the book.I have to admit... I'm wondering how much of the clunkinesss is first novel-itis. I suspect I'll give Book #2 a go just to find out. less
