I am a big fan of the supernatural and one of my favorite subjects is faeries. The faeries I read a beautiful, strange and scary as …. So when I stumbled across The Girl Who Never Was (which I still don’t understand the title) I knew I was going to get it. This is a faerie book, it has a lot of typical faerie themes such as very beautiful, magic, cruel, courts and etc. However there were also some themes that are unique to this book that I haven’t heard of so that was a nice new twist. Faeries aren’t the only supernaturals in this book, there are a few lesser used beings in here and I love that Skylar included them but I wished she would have mention a little more about these creatures background. The story was really good and I did have an Alice in Wonderland meets faeries feeling in this book, it was so weird especially when it comes to keeping time. Things were confusing at times but that is what gives it an Alice feel and it wasn’t to bad. The plot flowed nicely and the writing was good. The characters were a mess and I loved them for it. Selkie is weird and doesn’t really knows she’s weird and just wants to be normal. Her Aunts are weird most of the time and always speak in riddles much like Ben who is completely adorable but you never know what’s going on with him (he has a good poker face). Then there is Kelsey, the best friend who is the bestest friend Selkie could have wish for because Kelsey is a true friend. Finally there is Will. Will causes a lot of drama, is a little shady and has a horrible romantic past. This group of people all band together and it makes for a really good story plus the fact that a mother is trying to kill her daughter. I am not going to lie, something about that theme calls out to me. It’s so unusual, a mother trying to kill a daughter in a young adult novel is a little weird and this isn’t even the first ya I read with this theme. It’s really hard to explain this book so … The Girl Who Never Was had a homicidal mother, faeries, a girl who was something all together different, magic, murder and a quest. I already have the second book The Boy with The Hidden Name and I already have a planned time to read it. Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐The Girl That Never Was

The Girl Who Kissed a Lie is the prequel to The Girl Who Never Was. This novella is a good introduction to Selkie’s strange and mysterious world and if the actual book is anything close to this novella it gonna be weird.
