review 1: Meg has been roped into organizing Caerphilly's town Christmas parade. If I hadn't been riding the bus at the time Meg's parade started, I would have been flat on my back laughing. OK, Santa is played by a pretty nasty person, but he's eliminated early in the book. The role of wasp is buzzed by a Washington DC reporter - why has he been sent out here? If left to his own devices, the reporter can and will make homey and eccentric Caerphilly look ridiculous. Meg's job, in addition to keeping the floats in order, the number of geese down to six, providing a substitute in case the Virgin Mary goes into labor, etc., is to keep the reporter insulated and unable to misuse his camera.SIX GEESE A-SLAYING is lovably and hysterically funny.
review 2: I actually really enjo
... moreyed this entry in the series. I felt that the Langslows were getting a little over the top in some of the recent entries, and it was getting jarring instead of interesting. This one is more toned down, which is surprising considering the main plot involves a curmudgeonly Santa Claus who is killed by (maybe) one of the geese in the Holiday Parade. I think it's the lack of family involvement--it's really just Meg and Michael, for the most part, with the remaining family members thrown in to spice it up instead of take over. less
