review 1: I first saw this book in the hands of some of my students, and was intrigued by the title. I am into fashion and love looking at pinterest and fashion blogs in my spare time so I was sure it would be a hit. Torrey is stuck moving from Colorado to Texas after her sister is killed by a drunk driver. Not only does Torrey have to deal with the emotions of her loss and moving, she also has to give up her star status as a fashion vlogger (a video blogger). Torrey isn't recognized right away at her new school, but slowly people figure out who she is. She doesn't know where to fit in - with the popular group who knows about her sister's accident, or the normal group who accepts her for who she truly is? Eventually Torrey learns the meaning of friendship through Luis, who helps her... more come to terms with the death of her sister. I thought this book was going to be focused more on her vlogging and online bullying, which is originally why I picked it. It ended up being more focused on Torrey getting back on her feet and taking a break from her blog. It still has a good message for young girls on the internet, as well as dealing with siblings and peers. I will be keeping it in my classroom library, even though it didn't quite meet my expectations.
review 2: This book wasn’t the best story I’ve read but it was very creative, I feel like I wasn’t as involved with the characters, the author wasn’t very descriptive with the characters emotions and thoughts, except for the main characters. Although, she was very good at painting pictures of events in descriptive ways. Overall I enjoyed this book, but once the main event had happened in the beginning (which was very sad), it didn’t keep me very interested throughout. Creative, relatable, sad story. less
