A Chicken Squad Adventure
review 1: A list of things I don't understand:1. Why do the chickens have two names? This did nothing but confuse me.2. Naming one chicken Sugar and another Sweetie doesn't help me keep them straight. To be honest, I had a hard time identifying the chickens throughout the entire book.3. Why are the chickens attributed a "specialty" if it doesn't tie in with the plot? I get that this is going to be a series, but introducing a specialty without giving it a place in the story just feels like bad expository writing.4. What is the shoe all about. Again, I don't get it.5. Why are the chickens so rude to the squirrel? They seem a little too bratty for my taste. The mystery is good.. but the above issues make me feel this is a less than sterling transitional read. That isn't to say kids won'... moret enjoy it. Snark seems to be the order of the day and this book is packed with it.
review 2: Doreen Cronin, best known for Click, Clack, Moo and Diary of a Worm, is bringing readers a new intermediate chapter book series. The first book in this humorous series is The Chicken Squad: The First Misadventure. Four chick siblings take it upon themselves to solve mysteries around the farmyard. Their first case is to figure out what big, scary thing is terrifying the resident squirrel. Of course, they might need a little bit of help from J. J. Tully, the dog that watches out for them. But that might not be such a good idea, perhaps he is the enormous thing that is terrifying Tails? The black and white illustrations are fabulous, making this a great choice for boys and girls 1st-3rd grades. less

I enjoyed the JJ Tulley books more but there were still some funny bits in this book.
