review 1: This is a delightful animal rescue mission that takes an unexpected turn. Who ever thought of combining a worldly, slick and retired search and rescue dog with a family of chickens! Why Doreen Cronin! Tough dog encounters chicken breath, an elongated beak of anxious mama cluck as her shadow is cast on the side of J.J. the rescue dog's retirement doghouse as he reluctantly attempts to restore missing chicks (like popcorn with stick legs) to mama. This book, found in the juvenile section of the library, is a quick and humorous read. I recommend it for a dreary day. This read made a great start for cold...no freezing winter day.
review 2: Just ok. It didn't really capture my attention and I found myself quickly scanning pages just to finish it. That could be... more why the narrator swaps half way in completely lost me for a minute. I think those would confuse the targeted 2-3 grade audience as well. Or perhaps not if they are fully engaged in the story. I'll update with my daughters review (3rd grade) after she reads it. My son (5th grade) was not at all impressed. less
