review 1: Ecosse. Lors d'une partie de chasse avec son beau-frère Judson, Pendergast disparaît dans les marais, une balle en pleine poitrine. Mais lorsque les équipes de la police locale ne retrouvent pas son corps, Judson est persuadé qu'il n'en a pas fini avec Pendergast. Il décide dès lors d'utiliser Constance pour arriver à ses fins.Au fil des pages, on découvre un Pendergast inhabituellement maladroit dans ses réflexions pour découvrir la vérité sur la disparition de sa femme. Aux prises avec une organisation très dangereuse, il ne se rendra compte que trop tard de la complexité de l'affaire dans laquelle il s'est plongé corps et âme.
review 2: I doubt there's a Preston/Child fan out there who's going to say this was their favorite novel of these guy... mores. There's no beginning (it continues right where Fever Dream left off) and there's no end (it leaves you "to be continued"). Our beloved Pendergrast is a completely different character reminiscent of Jack Bauer rather than Sherlock Holmes. The story itself is rather lacking of a strong plot. Outside of the first and last 50 pages I couldn't really tell you anything interesting or exciting happens in between. Despite all these criticisms I still admire the way these guys write. They make a relatively boring Pendergrast story still hard to put down. I am of course dying to read the final book in the trilogy but honestly...this whole storyline just isn't strong enough to take three books to tell. Relic...yes...I WISH there was a third book to complete that storyline. But the whole Helen story could have and probably should have been told in one book. less
