review 1: Gideon Crew is hired by Eli Glinn to steal a page from the famous Book of Kells that is on loan to New York. He is then to travel to the Caribbean to find the Lotus Eaters and to retrieve a sample of a plant that has amazing healing powers. Crew embarks on a trip that has the reader on the edge of their seats and, other than the ending which I didn't care for even though it had to be, the book was suspenseful and very exciting. Preston and Childs have again shown their mastery.
review 2: Finally, a Gideon Crew book where I didn't want to slap him or roll my eyes at all his cheesiness. Those first two, I really had to force myself to finish them and I ALWAYS finish what I start reading. I was even regretting buying the 3 books outright, but this one was mu... morech better. More true to Preston and Child's previous series with every character much more likeable and the plot less hokey. It was even reminiscent of their original Pendergast books with some sci-fi thrown in. For some reason, I can handle sci-fi from them when I usually avoid it like the plaque. I'm also excited the ending segued into their finalizing The Ice Limit. I know I am way outside of their target audience (and hear about it from others a lot; yes I am a 34 year woman who generally stays current with the trends and watch crap tv like the Real Housewives, but I really like these authors. If you can choke down the first 2 Gideon Crew books, this one is worth the wait. And though it wouldn't make a huge difference one way or the other, I would read The Ice Limit before reading The lost Island. less
