review 1: This is my third book of Mr. Wilson's. One thing I especially like about his writing is that he keeps things very tight, with bite-size chapters that pack a punch. I almost gave up on modern theology books because so many of them I've read are just the opposite of Wilson's style. There have been some that after finishing the last page I wonder what I've just read. But Wilson knows how to connect. This is really a whole separate art in writing. Many have something to say, so they write about it; but connecting it and making it stick with the reader is something entirely different. This isn't necessarily a book debunking everything in the LEFT BEHIND series or most of what you'll see on TV from the "end time" preachers. In fact it's not as much about end times as I tho... moreught it would be. But it's really a book about ALL of time. It's about changing a lot of fundamental thinking on the subject of Christ's Kingdom on earth and what the means, for here and ever after. He answered a lot of the questions I had in this book, but also presented me with much I'd never considered. And while I would have appreciated a play-by-play up against the modern end times thinkers, I appreciate being stretched and seeing the entire subject as bigger than that. There is lots of recommended reading in the back of the book if one wants to go deeper on the details, but I really wish Wilson would write a part two of HEAVEN MISPLACED.
review 2: This is a really good book to read. I expected more from it though. It's meant as an introduction to historical optimism, and it suceeds at that. I was hoping it would address more of the questions that have arisen for me in my explorations of this eschatological view. The majority of the content in the book I'd already gleaned from Wilson in his preaching and through his blog.Definately worth a read though. I bet I would've given it 4 stars if I'd read it at the start of my eschatology journey. less
