review 1: This is an excellent treatment of the desperate need of Godly men in the world today. From the world, to the church, to the household; Everyone is suffering from "Father Hunger" and they only way to feed them is to return back to biblical leadership rooted in taking responsibility. This book is not only for fathers (It has them in mind especially), it is for all men.Pick this book up and read it. The world desperately needs what is found within it's pages.
review 2: This was an exceptional book about fatherhood. Wilson makes an excellent case for why fathers need to lead their families and how we fathers need to approach this. He also makes an excellent case for why fatherhood is so overlooked in our culture today and how our society has purposefully and inte
... morentionally disregarded fathers. While a bit political in some aspects, Wilson takes a biblical approach to fatherhood that is challenging and helpful and does not burden fathers with lists of to-do items and expectations. The big take-away for me from this book is that biblical fatherhood means I need to take responsibility for leading my family. Taking responsibility means that I trust the true Father to keep HIs promises and to be faithful in what He has called me to do. He will equip me for the task of fatherhood when I choose to follow His example and His ways. He will build me into the man He calls me to be to lead my family and my children. I need to trust that He will be faithful, even through my faults and failings. I need to seek Him and pursue His ways, approaching my family in love and humility and in expectation that God will protect and provide.Wilson makes a great case for the importance of fathers and the need for fathers to be masculine. There is and should be a difference between father and mother. Both roles are essential and one is no better or more important than the other. However, without fathers fulfilling their responsibilities, we will raise up a generation of children who are ill-equipped to face the challenges of life. Wilson makes the case that our society today has called us all to be more motherly than fatherly. We cannot feminize the role of fathers and turn fathers into something they are not intended to be. Fathers need to be masculine leaders of their homes. This is good and essential and is a role to be protected and taken seriously. This book has greatly challenged my thinking about fatherhood and my approach to my family. I am called to be a father. That comes with great responsibility as the leader of my home. That means I am to be a servant to my family, putting their needs above my own. That means that I am to set an example for my family in word and action. It is a calling to live according to God's ways and not my own. It is a call to put aside my own selfishness and personal desires for the betterment of my family. It is a call to trust and obey God the Father who equips me and changes me and helps me to be the father He calls me to be. It is a daunting task, but not overwhelming, because God the Father is with me. less

A very fine book for fathers. Chestertonian: written with pastoral concern and exhortation.
