review 1: If there is something to be spoiled about the workings of Dr Seuss, then do NOT continue. I could see the endings and direction of the stories from the beginning...Horton the Elephant: same loyal and true Horton being taken advantage of and doesn't receive retributions for his service.Marco: excuse for being late to school...dilemma over whether to end the life of an unborn bird/egg. abortion reference? Officer Pat: saves the town by taking preemptive action to stop trouble before it can start. I zoned out: predictable/repetitive. Power of police presence in the right places at the right times? Don't start trouble and there won't be any? Grinch: green string vs the sun. shortest but most inventive. How crazy that there can be that many comparisons! And I discovered that Dr... more Seuss coined the term "grinch". It is only known these days because of his usage.
review 2: ‘Horton and the Kwuggerbug and more Lost Stories’ by Dr. Seuss is recently republished collection of his “lost” stories whose origins are known to a bit older readers, though in this edition they’ve been adapted in terms of setting in which they take place. But don’t be worry because instantly reader will recognize known Dr. Seuss style and charm due to which he became so popular author. In these stories reader will again meet some known characters from previous Dr. Seuss works who will found themselves in new adventures:- ‘The Hoobub and the Grinch’ for story main character has probably the most known Dr. Seuss character Grinch who will persuade Hoobub, one good guy to become part of trade not so good- ‘Horton and the Kwuggerbug’ will take us on journey together with author’s well known elephant Horton and one insect- ‘How Officer Pat Saved the Whole Town’ brings reader to Mulberry Street where we will meet one police officer who will stop big incident to happen- ‘Marco Comes Late’ also for its setting has Mulberry Street and known character Marco who will explain why he doesn’t come at school on timeBesides sharing known characters from stories long ago published these stories also share one very important motive – the value of individual and how important things one person can do for those who surround us. Therefore these stories are not only very entertaining to go through but also very educating in terms of discussion which may be initiated after their reading.Speaking about the illustrations, reader who at least read one Dr. Seuss book will instantly recognize the other – combination of beautiful drawings that evokes nostalgia will be equally appealing for parents as well as for their children while remembering the time when they read Dr. Seuss stories with their parents.Overall, ‘Horton and the Kwuggerbug and more Lost Stories’ is beautiful entrance to Dr. Seuss magical world of children stories which wins the readers hearts with combination of eye pleasing illustrations and educating/entertaining text - highly recommended. less
