review 1: This was the wrong cookbook for me at the wrong time. This would be the fancy cookbook. It has a lot of new ingredients I'd have to buy before I attempted most of these. This is the book that helped me realize it's easier for me to find cookbooks that are gluten-free first and I can edit for vegetarian. It has great information and as I get better at having to be gluten-free I might revisit this book. At this point I'm too overwhelmed by the gluten free aspect that I must have and the vegetarian aspect that is a secondary issue.
review 2: I really like Dreena's other books and I was really excited that she was releasing a new one. I read some mixed reviews, so I checked this out of the library before buying. I'm glad I did. I don't think I would purchase it for
... more myself. Desserts take up a large portion of the book and I'm more interested in savory food. Additionally, there are a lot of recipes that use a large quantity of nuts. These are expensive, and you may want to be aware of this if you have an allergy in your family. I don't have kids, but Dreena has a lot of notes about adapting the recipes to appeal to children so perhaps this would be a good book for parents. Another turn-off for me was some of the language...even though vegan is in the title, she uses "plant-powered" a LOT in the book, which irks me. I feel like perhaps the target audience for this book was omnivore moms who want to start making more 'plant-based' meals for their families. Not to say you won't like the book if you don't fit into this demographic, but a lot of the recipe preambles seem to reflect this. less

A few good recipes, but lots of junk food, lots of high fat food, and no nutritional info. Too bad.

I'm going vegetarian by the end of 2012 so this is prep material.
