review 1: I really enjoyed this! I enjoyed the story of Evercloud and the bear community and i enjoyed the story about Edgar and his life. I was intrigued as to how their worlds would collide.I felt genuine sadness when Whiteclaw was attacked and left with only one eye, and it's unusual for a book to leave me feeling so emotional, let alone a free ebook (no offense!).I enjoyed the story on a basic level, but felt there was some greater meaning that I was missing.I would definitely read more books by Dylan Peters, and would recommend Everflame highly.
review 2: First, I want to say that it was difficult to decide to go with just two stars here. There is an intriguing story, but it is not especially well executed. It took me a long time to finish, because I could only read... more a few paragraphs or pages at a time without getting bored. Many others have pointed out issues with the bear society -- and they are not wrong. The whole story would have been much more intriguing if the bears had built an equally advanced -- but different -- society. What they did should have felt foreign, and it didn't. The writer needs an editor. I hope that EverFlame earns enough money so that his future work can be thoroughly edited. Many of the points that other reviewers have brought up (sentence structure, repetitions, overuse of character names in dialog, etc) would have been things a good editor would have caught. I hope that Mr. Peters continues to write. This book shows promise, but also a need for practice. I will not be reading the next book in this series, but maybe something that the author publishes several years/books down the road. less
