review 1: Brubaker knocks another one out of the park, with Steve Epting at his side. Velvet is an exciting, 70s spy story, full of the stuff that makes every good Bond flick. The art is pitch perfect in tone, masking the story in a strong noir veil, with excellent action sequences, and perfectly human faces, emoting beautifully between gunshots. We only get a taste of what's to come in this volume, but it's gearing up to be a blast, and I'm excited to be along for the ride.
review 2: Velvet is a spy. Velvet is avenging the death of a friend, former lover and fellow spy. Velvet is the most badass woman that I know these days. I want to be Velvet's friend but I know that could never happen because spies don't make friends with ordinary people. But I'm still going to stand
... more outside on a rainy night, on the cobblestoned street of a small European city, in the headlights of a vintage automobile, and maybe - if I look out of the corner of my eye without blinking; I will see her. Velvet. less

Perhaps one of the best things I've read this year. Looking forward to the next volume.

Loved the initial concept, hated how quickly it became cliched.
