review 1: I think I just love all the “I Spy” books in this series. This particular one is all about pets. There is a large hole in the book (including the front and the back covers). A reader is given a clue such as, ” I spy with my little eye…something with silky feathers.” And there is always a second clue (which I don’t always get out before kiddos shout out the answer) such as “I like to peck seeds.” The reader can also see the animal’s eye and through a hole the texture of part of the animal. Then when the page is turned, the hole goes over the illustration of the eye and the texture becomes part of the bird, the cat, the fish, or whatever pet is showcased. I have read these books in story time and have read them one on one with small kiddos. They all love th... moreem. And their favorite part is at the end of the book when they get to look through the back cover of the book (through the hole) and see what they can “spy”. Great fun in book form!
review 2: The newest book in the I spy series by Edward Gibbs continues in the same vein with a hole in the front and back covers for children to look out of and to aid the creation of the big, bold, yet simple illustrations. My criticism with this book, and really it's a picky thing, is the book starts with naming a specific type of bird, fish, lizard and then switches to general terms such as dog and cat. I would have liked the book to pick one or the other and stick with it. less

Great LARGE I Spy book for the youngest kids, and use for storytime. Add pet books for common core!
