review 1: Really enjoyed this urban fantasy novel (especially the blurb on the front cover exclaiming that it's one of the best "Were" series out there, because actually that is now a fairly wide field). If you haven't read much of the previous series (and I've only read book 8 and this one, book 9) you might be a little confused about people and setup, but eventually the story does get going. A theft turns out to be a well-planned heist, with the stolen object becoming a hot commodity for various pursuers, as Lily Yu, her werewolf fiance, and his people all chasing after it (with the help of a ghost). Some nicely done action sequences, and decent detective narration, which picks up a bit at the end since the author finally seems to leave off all her explanations about werewolf so... moreciety. Will definitely consider picking up more in the series. One graphic bedroom scene.
review 2: Eileen Wilks has one of my favorite women characters. Lily Yu is a woman who loves her fiancee and is willing to take on the responsibilities that go with loving a man of the Clan. She's made friends along the way, and her own family isn't exactly normal either.Mortal Ties has a former foe showing up again and is really about the moral choices we make. The characters are all showing different ways that they stay within their own moral code, which is different for each of them. Lily is willing to do what it takes within the law but is able to justify some murder if it will protect the world. However, not everyone has the same moral code. I loved getting to hang out with my favorite wolf pack and even spend time with Grandma Yu. She's fierce. The only thing that would have made this story better is to have more time with Sam. All in all, a wonderful read! less
