World of the Lupi
review 1: If you're this far into the series there isn't a whole lot to say either way. Especially with an accurate synopsis to follow. This installment was more about the Lupi than the others of the series so Rule was more in front than Lily. Rule & Lily's engagement is still pretty big news for both the human and Lupi worlds and causes a few molehills for Lily's investigation into drugged Lupi. Benedict was added to the second male lead rotation giving Cullen a rest along with a new character, Arjenie Fox, rotating in for Cynna bringing a set to new skills to the party. With war drawing ever closer, Friar shows aptitude for still surprising our intrepid heroes with his never-emptying bag of tricks which brings change for Lily and for Benedict. As usual this installment started r... moreather slow for me and didn't pick up until around the midway point or a little past. Once things got going they fell together quickly- maybe too quickly because the pacing seemed rushed. For this reader, the story felt more bloated and talky than it should have been (IMO). I also am liking Lily less with each book and have questioned her brilliance for quite some time with the endless questions and un-subtle behavior (for someone supposedly so covert). These traits don't particularly make her seem smart, just slow.
review 2: I read entirely too much urban fantasy to be mistaken for a healthy fan of this genre. I'm more like the creepy celebrity stalker of urban fantasy series. I feel as if I have a relationship with the books I read, and, sadly enough, occassionally with the characters in the books. One part of my brain knows that I am deluding myself, but the other part of my brain feels the need to live vicariously through leather-clad heroines, shifters, vampires and all manners of fey. This, of course, means that I read a lot of series. Unfortunately, this genre also spawns a plethora of mediocrity. I have read 62 series this year. 62 seperate series. Of course, some of them were re-reads as new books came out, but the fact remains that I have had the pleasure to stalk 62 completely different characters in my own charming way, this year alone. Honestly, so many were crap. Even some of my favorite authors put out some seriously bad shit this year. I found my standards sinking lower and lower, giving some books higher ratings than they deserved just because they weren't THAT bad. Then I got pissed off. Why the hell should I settle for books that are ok? I spend more money on books every month then I spend on food! If I was unhappy with food I received at a restaurant, I would send it back, ask for a discount, or refuse to pay, right? When it comes to an author that I may have previously enjoyed, not only do I not refuse to pay for it, I feel so bad that I didn't enjoy the book that I still give it a 2 or 3 star rating! What the hell is wrong with me? NO MORE I SAY! From here on out I promise to be honest with myself and other readers and rate according to the content of the book, and not my relationship (real or imagined) with the author.Whew, ok, now that I got that off of my chest I can say that the World of Lupi is continuing to please, surprise, and entertain me 7 damn books into the series! The plot is already reviewed by everyone else that has written a review, so no need to go over it again. I am so glad that the books are still exciting and fresh and I am grateful for the opportunity to realize why I fell in love with this genre in the first place. Good stuff! less

Loved Benedict and Arjenie's story! Also, I want them to beat Friar and She Who Musy Not Be Named.
