review 1: This is part 3 of a 3 book serial. The first can stand on its own if it has to. This one cannot. To get anything from this story you must have read the first two. Part three again picks up where the last one left off. It is told from Callie, Jason, Jane and Jays POV with a heading to alert the reader who is speaking. It is effective and good to hear what each are thinking. I did feel the story was stretched out anf would have been more effective if it was more concise. I just finished the story yet don't remember any earth shattering developments that adds to the basic story told in the first two parts. Just my opinion but it seems almost like a long epilogue. I will repeat what I said before, this story is from very obvious decision to make the second story ending a cl... moreiffhanger. I absolutely hate that. The third story is not long and could have easily been combined with the 2nd. That i had to pay thst much money to get a complete story is madness. I very much regret doing so. It wss good yes, but certainly not worth that.I recommend the story but do not recommend buying it for more than $2.99 for the 3 parts. Not for underv14 and mature.
review 2: As much as I love Elizabeth James, this series went from 5 stars, to 4, and now 3 with the final book for me. I struggled with this last book. Perhaps my personal life and current stress prevented me from truly enjoying the conclusion of the design series. Perhaps other reasons. This book had its positives; I was glad to hear from Justin and Callie after their story had ended in book one. I also loved little Jolene and Jay's interactions. I loved the wedding scene, I'll keep the details off as to avoid spoilers -- let's just say it is the most adorable wedding ever ❤.I think the reason why I struggled so much, it's because I felt Jane and Jay characters weren't fully living, breathing characters. I would have liked a glimpse of their lives rather than a narrative of their mundane, everyday interactions. For example, while reading Jay and jane's story during book 2, I kept questioning why Jay would have waited years to approach Jane while pursuing her friend (and boss) Callie. Elizabeth said it would be revealed in #3. What I got was a few paragraphs in Jay's POV giving his reasoning. 1 page. Janet's parents sudden appearance in her life, after shunning her and not reaching out to her for 5 years. 5 years without reaching out to your child?! Inconceivable. Yet there's no explanation offered other than pride. "Sorry we didn't call..." What? So, they had their number all this time and didn't call?! Made no sense to me. I would have liked to hear more about Jane's relationship with her parents (more context) and try to understand how she can so easily forgive them for turning their back on her. Yet there's a page and a half of Justin changing his son's diaper, two pages dedicated to dress shopping, full conversations in arranging babysitting and how the guys get mistaken for a gay couple --interactions that I would expect to consume maybe a sentence or two in order to move the plot forward. Instead, the plot drags on and on and nothing really happens. No big payoff in the end. I'm a bit disappointed. I wished some story lines like Jane's ex showing up would have been wrapped up in book two, therefore avoiding a third book, then a short novella showing Callie's and Jane's life some years after their stories concluded. Overall, I give the entire series 3 1/2 to 4 starts. The 1st book is still my fave. ;). less
