review 1: An amazing book. Muire, the last Valkyrie/angel, has lived 2500 years and is seeing the end of the world - again. In a nice departure from traditional fantasy, the background mythology is Norse. While the story appears in the beginning to be a simple mystery, the mystery you don't even know is there is the one that caught my interest and held it all the way through. I can't wait to read the sequel AND the prequel!
review 2: Though much of this book is set during the end of the world, which makes it somewhat of a downer, the characters are so interesting that it's a fun book to read. The ending is not so much of a surprise as it is a perfectly fit glove for the earlier sections of the story. The emotional depth of the characters is just a touch overdone in s
... moreome areas, with the characters being overly perceptive of each other's emotions (especially the perceptiveness of the 19-year-old character, but I suppose it makes sense, because he makes a living understanding other people's emotional cues). I think that fans of the Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop will love this book. less

For angels, these people sure are mopey and melodramatic.
