review 1: The first part of a planned trilogy about one of history's most fascinating female characters, Eleanor of Aquitaine, this was a wonderful read by an immensely skilled historical novelist. Covering Eleanor's life from her marriage to Louis VII of France until her arrival in England at the side of her second husband Henry II at the beginning of his reign, the story quickly sucked me in. An intriguing and highly enjoyable take on Eleanor's story which I'm very much looking forward to continuing.
review 2: I picked this book up because I was looking for something new and different. -- It was really and interesting and entertaining book with lots of English/French History in the 1100's. It made the time period seem real. I realize it is historical FICTION based... more on real people and real times, but it certainly seemed like it could have been real. Enjoyed the book and am anxiously waiting for the next one in the series. less
