review 1: Well what a wonderful set of books. Having just finished the 5th chronicle I feel somewhat bereft. Like many readers I have followed the ups and downs of their lives through WWll England through to the 1950's. You can not help but love and sometimes loathe some of the family members and their actions but above all the book gives us an insight into family life and I am sure will resonate with many of us even now in the twenty first century.
review 2: What a marvelous family saga this 5 book series has been (often referred to as a quartet, since the 5th book was published 10 years after the 4th). ... moree to arrive in the mail if I had finished a book and not ordered the next in advance - talk about an addiction! EJH was almost 90 when this last book was published, and obviously knew there would be no more. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. I love the way the story of this family is told to us in the voices of the many characters; confusing at times, but you get used to it, and the children are often hilarious in their brutally honest comments and lofty world views. This family will stay in my thoughts for a long time. less
