All of this leads to great strife between the entire family. Enter Kate who has experienced a great loss of her own. With her desire to care for this broken family and a great listening ear she begins to help put the pieces back together. This book was such a beautiful story of love and life.

We get the nice assortment of issues and characters: the grieving parents Maggie and Bill - each dealing with the death of their first born in divergent ways, the troubled teenager Aly, the special needs boy Stan,... more the faraway concerned sister Olivia and her perfect lover Scott, the rent-a-granny Kate and her mysterious past, Bill's rebound girlfriend Carrie with grieving of her own. We gradually learn the past as the present story unfolds so that in the end it's as if we become silent members of the family. I won the book in a First Reads Goodreads giveaway. less
