review 1: Well, well.What did I think?Hard to say, however, let me first stress this: Do net let yourself be put off from reading this book because of my low rating, if it interests you. I honestly don't think that it's badly written or anything, not that bad anyways.Personally I just found myself enjoying this book less than I hoped, and that even though it features a main character named Susannah.On the back cover it gets praised as "for fans of Jojo Moyes", haven't read her, but Elizabeth Noble doesn't make me want to now.Essentially it's a chock full of drab realism story about missed chances, failing relationships and lifelong friendship - it matches in every sense the much abused label women’s-literature.Just not my cuppa. That the main character, Susannah, can be terribly a... morennoying, and whiney, at times, didn't help either.Especially when she rattles down a list of her failures in life, no husband, no children... as if these were eternal mark posts needed to be reached in your life in order to call yourself "successful", I just wanted to pick up a shovel and hit her over the head with it.Still, if realism is what you are looking for, and more over, if you prefer your characters to be realistic over likeable, then go for it!
review 2: Really enjoyed reading this book. I thought the best thing the author could do was not give it a happy ending and to make the reader aware that life never goes according to plan and that when you think it has finally settled there is always something coming up to prevent it flowing the way you wanted. A lot of people will read this book and see how Rob & Sussanah were perfect for each other however once you get to the end you will understand why it never worked out, why they never had their chance. However they both had a happy ending in the end :) less
