review 1: This book is on the more advanced end of the text set (4th-6th grade level), and would therefore be taught at the end of the unit. This tells the true story of the march on Selma. This is a nonfiction text. The author interviewed people who actually participated in the march, making this book full of personal, rich information. This makes it stand out from other nonfiction books in the text set, which are written from research alone and not from personal interviews with people who were alive at the time.
review 2: I thought this was a very good book. It provided so much information that I had never heard before. This book provides insight on the influence children had during the civil rights movement. I have never learned about this and never realize what the
... morese children went through. It was honestly very shock and interesting to read about. I think this would be a powerful book to have available in an older classroom, such as 5th-8th grade because the book had real pictures of children during the five-day march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Aside from that, this book also has great information about one of our country’s largest movements. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interest in this topic, or want to learn about a powerful topic in our history. less
