review 1: 3.5 stars78 pagesStand alone I generally avoid rocker type romances these days. Though I love music these stories tend to tread a too predictable path, tatted boys, drugs, sex, groupies, violence and a pet hate, cheating then pile on an h who lacks a back bone and the story has completely lost me, it would take a miracle to turn it round for this reader. I'm glad I read this one though. It hits the ground running before I could catch my breath although I had to seriously question Bree's decision over the first few pages but more on that later. It's not pretty, domestic violence never is and while its never far from the readers mind due to Bree's experience with her ex and Josh's experience with his sister, the focus shifts to the music but more importantly the romance bet... moreween Josh and Bree with an interesting cast of secondary characters both for and against these two getting their HEA as you would expect.I won't go on and on, you can get the fill in elsewhere but I will go back to my reservation about Bree's decision at the beginning of the story to go face to face with Nick and tell him she was leaving him. Nick came home and as their interaction continued along with Bree's inner thoughts I had to seriously question her judgement, she was either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid. As it turned out he reacted violently, exactly as I knew he would so why didn't she see that? She took two years of his abuse yet through some misguided sense of doing the right thing gave him the opportunity to hurt her...yet again *shakes head*. Ladies, if you ever find yourself contemplating a TSTL moment as Bree faced - DON'T DO IT! Run for your bloody life and never ever look back. It took some time to recover from this scene, it was just too incredible to believe.Now onto Broken #2, Eric and Lena's story. In Save Eric is Josh's bestie who loved and lost Josh's sister Lindsey to DV and Lena is Bree's co-worker.Updated: 24/5/14Just one other thing I've remembered its not a biggie but it was distracting. Kay? I realise Kay is an abbreviation for okay nonetheless I kept associating it with a person's name "Josh, some other time. Kay?""I won't hurt you. Kay?"Like I said distracting.I'll never stop waffling at this rate but damn I've just realised there's more than two books, its got a continuation theme going on.#1 Save - Josh and Bree#2 Broken - Eric and Lena#3 SAVE Me - continuation of Josh and Bree#4 ??? - continuation of Eric and Lena (Aug 2014)My fault for not doing my homework and I'm usually damn good at avoiding series unless I can read them back to back or they really are stand alone which I thought Save was. SAVE Me is so new 21 May release (its already got goodreads reviews) that its not even listed on amazon but how I missed it on goodreads is way way beyond me. I've got Broken waiting for me tonight and I was quite looking forward to it because I liked Eric and loved Lena in Save but I don't think I'll bother continuing with the series after all. Drat.
review 2: I was really pleasantly surprised about how good this really short book was...it was everything I like in a story. A sexy rocker, a pretty, conservative (at first) girl, a couple of crazy EX's and one hot romance. Bree meets neighbors Josh and Eric when she is moving into her new place, escaping from an abusive boyfriend, and the fireworks start there. My only criticism at all is the fact that Bree and Josh moved WAY too quickly and at times the dialogue was not realistic (or natural) enough...but it was not so distracting to make me stop reading at all...in fact I stayed up way too late to finish this because I just HAD to know how it ended. The last few chapters were a bit predictable (I have read many books with the same themes/subject matter) but it did not make this one any less enjoyable. Ella Col knows how to write a really fun and steamy story and I'm looking forward to starting the next book (Broken) later today!****4**** hot yard party stars =) less
