review 1: I don't know where to start... To say that this book was a pleasant surprise is an understatement. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but to say this book is going to stick with me... Yea it's just going to stick with me. It's just got a different vibe to it... Like able characters, set in a place that one can relate to and visualize, I can relate to the character in a way with the dark past and childhood issues, and adult hood challenges.... Just without the vampires and magic. Though honestly? The vampires in life would be a plus and add a little adventure to my life (so would the magic)... But I felt like I could relate to Riley in a way.Riley Poe, with a dark past, dark child hood, turn professional daughter out tattoo artist, friend, fighter, survivor, and loves th... moreose who both are her family and those she considers family. When life in Savannah isn't as it seems, and what both magic and legends have been somewhat pounded into her head turn out to be true? Life is turned upside down, when her brother Seth is forever changed after a daring night parading about with his friends. Changing her world as she knows it.Finding love. (And major lust bunnies)Finding out that she has to face things of her past. (which bites her in the ass more than once)Finding out that things that she's been doing all her life are not as they seem.Dealing with emotions that she wishes not to deal with... Ever.Going through some serious changes along the way.I like Riley. Though at times I found her to be a little impulsive. She found a way to push forward to get things done. To fight, to guard, to control, to prove her worth... Things between her and Eli? Some how I get the feeling that there are going to be major issues. Her being her independent, sassy, either running hot or cold self. She is going to have to learn to trust more. She is going to have to lower those shields.... To everyone. Seth may know her. Preacher and his wife may know her. But the Dupre's only know what they can read off her surface thoughts, or what she tells them. I think that is going to be a major down fall for any relationship with any of them. Who knows though? I could be reading too much into it. This book ended with a major cliffhanger... Which has me going on to the next book... Pretty much as soon as possible.
review 2: Afterlight. Not your typical urban fantasy vampire novel. Not at all.Mainly because the characters are complex or rather so unusual which is a major plus for me. I did not have the feeling that I 'knew' the character beforehand, knowing it from other books. It was not the case. The reason why I chose this book is that I found the tattoo artist aspect VERY appealing, it did not disappoint me because her manner of dressing and carrying herself simply ROCKED. I loved every second of it, even if there were moments when I thought, “Woman. How often are you going to get changed again?”Whereas her clothing style is awesome, some parts of her are not. For example, I could not understand why she did not think of the real reason for Seth, her brother, to leave all of a sudden, earlier. It was SO obvious. Sure, it mostly was because she was used to him and blinded by the things in front of her, but still. It sounded naive….Sadly. Following orders is not her strongest suit either, which gets her into trouble very often. The sexual aspects were not really mentioned in the synopsis, but that was okay, as it was clear that something would eventually happen between some people. The annoying thing was the talk of 'he could have killed you' – I did not understand it because how can having sex with someone kill them? He was not an inccubus or stealing souls.People I really loved were Eli's family, their manner of speaking and behaving, was funny as it contradicted with the manners of the ages in which they were born. The story itself could have been shortened. By length. I'm not saying that the writing was not good or that it did not have much appeal or anything, but instead of dragging it out into more books by making some sort of weird ending, not spectacular at all, it would have been better to finish it in one or two books at the max. less

Interesting main character and semi-interesting plot. It's a little dull, but I enjoyed it.
