Poor Man's Fight
review 1: I was initially drawn into the story by the concept of intergalactic pirates and corporate financed education. The more I read, the more I felt like the author was attempting to place their political beliefs (not that I don't agree with some of the politics in the book) into the story. The insertion of the author's personal politics felt a bit forced as well and really jarred me out of the story. I ended up very disappointed in this book which started out so well.
review 2: In the last year there have been many exciting new military science fiction & fantasy novels, & series appearing. Elliot Kay has really excelled himself with poor Man's flight. ... moreist Tanner.Kay marks himself out from most sci-fi authors by having his characters make realistic choices. In many films & TV shows, 'the good guys' make unwise & unrealistic decisions to protect innocents in kidnap & hostage situations, or the allow the bad guys to monologue giving away plot points & plans. Kay's characters are far more realistic, they make harsh brutal choices, sacrificing innocents & friends so they can win the overall battle. With the inevitable psychological consequences afterwards. The truth & realism in the characters & enjoyable action packed pace has left me desperate for the next instalment. less

I enjoyed reading it. It kept me engrossed in it throughout, which is very rare nowadays.

gripping page turner, character driven rather than hard-sci, but believable and fun.
