review 1: It didn't register with me in the beginning that this was a retelling of Cinderella. And then the start of our hero's story was weird and almost put me off the story. But I'm so glad I stuck to it. The weirdness quickly made room for a most delightful story with all the humour and hot tension I like.I read the desperate duchasses-series before this one and didn't quite get why people seemed to love miss James's books. But I might just start to get it.This was a fun, original and steamy take on the famous fairy tale which I find quite an accomplishment.In most romances there are scenes that are silly of just not believable, but most of the times I read on and dismiss them. But in this case it stuck. I really didn't like [spoilers ahead] that he kept her into his tower while... more he was wooing (sort of) his beautiful fiancee downstairs. It was one thing to try to seduce her while the russian princess wasn't in the castle. But to sneak from one to the other was just plane wrong. I suppose it was to add tension, but it just irritated the h... out of me. I was so happy Henry got him to see the error of his way because otherwise I might have missed the wonderful ending.
review 2: Ok, now this is what I like seing when it comes to romance: well constructed plot and characters, a twist or two (predictability does not matter as long as I'm invested in the leads). I liked how lighthearted the book was at times, without entering Disney-love-conquers-all domain. Of course, that is the main goal, but the conflict was real and I was rooting for Kate to get her man. I love level-headed girls! less
