review 1: This was a terrible book with unsympathetic characters going through some mundane event. Nothing really happened. There was a lot of dialogue, which got tiring very soon after I realized that nothing much was happening. The hero and heroine were selfish and had no business getting married. Their whole conflict was incompatibility in bed because they were both virgins and did not their way around the bed. I give up on Eloisa James. The cast includes a cold father, a restless barren step-mother, a caveman duke, and an autistic music genius. The guilt over their fight was stretched way too much. First the step-mother went on and on reaming him, the father punched him, the butler quit on him, and then he beat himself up. I'm over the overly victimized heroine trope. It seemed ... moreway too pandering. Overall, no matter how many times they tell themselves they love their spouse, their marriage was cold. They didn't really enjoy each other's companies. He was too preoccupied wanting to bed her and she was too preoccupied wanting to secure time for her practice. What exactly is she doing outside of her music? If she practices for three hours, what else is she doing with the rest of her time? Why exactly did she even get married? When it all comes down to it, this book wasn't written well. The plot was flimsy and shallow at best and the characters weren't fleshed out. They didn't really grow. He was obsessed with bedding her and she just can't love somebody outside of her music. I don't care what they both say, their actions didn't really support their loving words anyways. I think the worst part of the book is when the hero was making himself feel guilty. Everyone was beating on him and there was way too much justification on why he should feel bad about himself. It was just overkill. The heroine had no business getting married. The heroine that he was praising wasn't the one I've read about. I think there was a shift to make her more sympathetic at the end of the book but it didn't resonate with the heroine of the book. She was selfish and all of a sudden she is this victim. I don't exactly blame her though because the hero was shitty. She came into the marriage and immediately drew the line on what she won't be doing. She fires servant willy-nilly. She holds up the travel for her own practice. She was so immature. I wish they hadn't met each other because Gowan was clearly saving himself for a loving wife. This book was terrible. I hate the heroine. The hero was questionable.
review 2: It was somewhat strange. But original. I guess I do not know other book where main issue is problems in bed. :D I loved the beginning and them getting to know each other, but after the marriage took place, the characters irritated me often, but still I ended up heartbroken for them, and I loved cello involvment (now I will definitely see it as an erotic music instrument!), so - 4 stars.Unfortunately, the stunning impression that 1st book in the fairytale series left has not repeated with any other following book. :( less
