review 1: Flummoxed as to why this isn't a 4 star book, or a 2. In its favor, heaps of total feel-good realness, as tolerance triumphs over bigotry and likable teen characters live, learn, grow, and all that good stuff. On the other hand, the relationship between a lesbian teen and her parents is a major issue in the story yet inadequately developed,and the plot is just a little too Footloose-with-gay-kids to be believable or fully enveloping.
review 2: A young adult novel with no vampires, zombies, or werewolves! The story is infuriating and heartwarming at the same time. The characters are real. They could be your neighbor or your best friend. I felt like I have known them my whole life.
