review 1: Genre: Young Adult/Realistic FictionCopyright Date: 2010Opinions/Thoughts: Thought this book was alright. I just don't think many of my 8th graders are ready for the content in it. But then again, maybe I'm naive to think they don't know about kissing, and other things, that I feel was hinted at in this book. I think some of my girl students would enjoy this read, but as their teacher I would rather them read it in high school. It is sweet that Hank an adolescent with Asperger's and Lianna a popular, attractive girl have a growing friendship that turns into something more. Franklin did a good job developing Hank throughout the plot.
review 2: There are about 3 pairs of young adult writers who are capable of doing good to excellent jobs of meshing their own styl
... morees together to create a cohesive and intriguing story. While I maintain that Cohn/Levithan are the top at this game, once I read The Half-Life of Planets, I was convinced that Franklin/Halpin are a very high second. I haven't enjoyed their other combined works as much as I did this particular story and a lot of that has to do with the fact that one of the characters in this novel has Asperger's Autism, an affliction that I grow up with by proxy (my younger sister is an Aspie). The details are so succinct with the habits of an Aspie that I found myself crying in portions. I will advise other parents that while this book is what I consider to be heartfelt and relatively tame, the writers do not shy away from the realities of say - spontaneous teenage erections or the blatant sexual stirrings that nearly all young people have - including those with developmental disabilities. Actually, for that reason, I love Halpin's take on his music obsessed, centrally focused character even more. No kid-gloves handling. Just truth.Recommended age demo: 13 years and up. Simple but good read for adults as well. less

The ending was nice, but overall the book was inappropriate and not really worth reading.

Bad cover, great book. It really needs an index with a list of songs and musicians. :-)

Very likable. Narrators alternate. The guy with Aspberger's is certainly self-aware.

A romance that will satisfy any music lover's appetite. A true gem!
