review 1: Arguably, nothing much really happened in this book - this was not a heavy action book (though there is some significant action at times), but is instead showing things coming to a head. After finishing this book, I expect some sort of large explosion within the United States of Europe and SoTF as they react to enemies both internal and external.I still love the premise of this series, and am really enjoying the very intelligent exploration of what that premise would mean.
review 2: This is one of the books that reminds me why I'm still interested in the Ring of Fire series. A clear narrative, concentrated on characters we actually know and care about. And not coincidentally, no Virginia DeMarce (who I'm sure is a wonderful person and a great historical researc
... moreher, but is not very good as a writer). Gustavus Adolphus and the USE move against the rebellious provinces, Brandenburg and Saxony and then get entangled with Poland. Political problems ensue, especially after not everything goes their way for once. less

Good, but very much half of a full story with the payoff coming in 1635: The Saxon Uprising.
