review 1: Eugene paints a compelling argument that most of us are more in love with the idea of changing the world than we are with actually getting off our butts to do something in the world. I've already had these same thoughts about my generation, so for me this book became refreshing once I started reading Cho's personal stories. His stories show true tenacity and grit, and the real life stakes for living a better dream. I also enjoyed his sense of humor throughout! It sounded like Eugene, which was cool. Worth the read.
review 2: Strangely enough, the welcome impact of reading this book that primarily criticizes how Christians approach justice ministry is that it actually can restore a skeptic’s faith as to how GOOD justice ministry can be achieved. Eugene Cho ask
... mores honest smart questions of “God’s People,” and they must answer. Starting up another NGO to care for the masses might just be the most ungodly thing a well-intended Christian does. Overrated, a.k.a. “Eugene’s confession,” absolutely underscores the need for “those-who-have-been-given-much” to act in accordance with God as His dispersal agents BUT not without targeting the reader with multiple cautionary tales. The anecdotes emphasize the pitfalls a justice crusader will encounter if they rise to battle evils high only on emotion and empty on the appropriate fuel. Read it. less
