The streaking life is something that means you have to make time for a run, no matter what. In the case of my current streak, the past couple of days have been harder to keep it going. Now, although it is only one mile (less than 10 minutes of running) needed each day, it can be tough to get it in.
The last couple of days for me have seen some pretty busy days at work and events during the night. However, I have committed myself to keeping the streak going. This means I have to find the time/motivation to get it done.
On Monday, my motivation was waining and after a hard set of weights (squats, lunges, biceps and shoulders) I knew I would have to hit the treadmill to get my run in. I mean, I could have gone outside, but it was 35-ish degrees with a 40-mph wind. I wasn’t going to mess with that one.
Despite the low motivation, I got on the treadmill, set the countdown to 30 minutes (thinking of an easy 5k), and put on the Hamilton soundtrack (sure to get me out of a funk) and zoned out. Next thing I know, the treadmill is turning off, my 30 minutes were done. Looking down at my watch, I’ve gone 3.5 miles, quite a bit further than I had thought I would get with tired legs and low motivation.
This brings me to today. I had originally planned on a 4-5 miler and some upper-body lifting. However, at 2:50 I get a reminder that I have a dentist appointment at 3. So instead of the gym, I’m rushing out the door to get to my appointment and then get home after that. Once home, I had some chores to do — hanging some new Holiday lights and making some delicious Pan de Yuca.
After getting everything ready, it was my turn to hit the treadmill. Today there was only time for a 10-minute run. So I set the treadmill to 7 mph and ran for those 10 minutes then went upstairs for my dinner. Good times.
So how do you find time for your workouts or stress reliefs? Especially on those long days where life gets in the way, what do you do?
