review 1: I can't blame others who read this book first, because without the context of the other books, I may have felt the same way they did. However, I did read the other books first and saw this one after the fact. I loved the other books (for the most part) so was ok with how this one was written. Unlike the others, Kai and Amber did have a past...yeah, you don't really get much history into that past like how they met and fell in love, how and why he taught her to shoot, or exactly what happened when they both went to meet the other and Kai was killed. The book could have probably been longer with all of that, but since he is just a Reaper and not one of the brothers, I can see why the author made it short and sweet. Having a past just meant they needed to clear up the misunde... morerstanding that stood between them. They both made assumptions (although I have to admit, hers was a bit weak given he would never have sent her Roses and she should have known that) which is what led them to where they are at. However, unless he died, she would have outlived him either way so I guess it was a good thing that he did die (just sucked that they lost 50 years). The ending definitely could have contained some more details too, but that didn't mean I didn't like this book. I would suggest you read the other books first. Maybe I am just in the mood to be generous, but there are times when I do like short and sweet stories.
review 2: It was okay. The story happened in a two day span. Basically it gives the prolog of the boyfriend (Kai) dying and assuming that it was the result of his girlfriend Amber. But while dying he’s given a choice. So the story begins where Amber is running away from people she calls hunters. While defending herself someone comes to help to her so she assumed until the person takes his hand which have turned into claws and takes out the man’s heart. This person turns out to be Kai her ex-boyfriend. They are both upset with each other because they both assume that the other lead them to their death’s 50 years ago. Kai wants to know why the hunters are after her and while they are being chased both of them come clean about that night 50 years ago and Amber tells him that she cannot die and stopped aging at age 25. Kai revels he’s a soul reaper and the heart is for his master but he wants to find out what another demons wants from her. That night they have sex and next day basically she agrees it time to stop running and find out why the hunters are after her whom turns out that it is her father (a demon who cannot come above ground topside) who wants to get to know her. And that’s it the story concludes where they (Kai and Amber) are together while she is getting to know her father. That’s it. I thought there would have been more action and d a little more too why they wanted her. less

I really liked this short story but I recommend reading it AFTER you finish the main trilogy :-)

This was a pretty good short story. It was a small read, but didn't feel rushed.

Good mix of romance and story. Can't wait for the next book to come out.
