review 1: I won this book from GoodReads. Debut novel for Ewart Hutton, and kept me interested all the way. Starts with a minibus being hijacked on a lonely road in England, with 2 men and a woman inside. When the bus is found, so are 5 of the men. They say no one else was with them. And, of course, there is the detective that is drawn to the story and keeps digging. The plot twists and hidden things come out and the situation and people involved get darker and darker. The end was a surprise to me, and the way the author got there kept me interested all the way. Good read. Waiting for next in this series.
review 2: Set in Wales, I expected to get some of the flavor of the country. Not so, this book could have happened in any isolated place. The subject matter was
... more the real reason for my lack of enthusiasm for this book. Think of the most horrid sexual depravity you can imagine and it will come close to describing this book. I am aware that such acts occur in this world but I'd just rather not read about them. less

It's an OK disgraced-cop-given-one-last-chance book. The Welsh setting is interesting.
