The Legend of the Lady Slipper is the captivating Ojibwe tale of how the lady slipper, which is a beautiful flower, came to be. Long ago, a little girl lived with her family and had a great admiration for her older brother, who was the messenger of the village because of his strength and wisdom. The little girl had always wanted to go on his journeys with him but was never able to. One day, her family became ill and her brother was unable to make the journey to a nearby village for medicine. The little girl courageously decided to conquer the trip on her own to get medicine for her family. Along the way, she lost her precious moccasins deep in the snow. Once winter passed and the snow melted, she returned to the spot where she had lost her moccasins to find that moccasin flowers, or lady slippers, were growing in their place. This precious story is great for curious readers who are intrigued by the origin of these beautiful flowers.
Fun Fact:
The Lady Slipper is the state flower of Minnesota.
