Legion Lost Vol. II
review 1: It's weird to see an Issue number one that needs a 'Previously,' but this book did. Unfortunately, it didn't have one. Instead, the reader's dumped into aftershocks of events that happened somewhere else. Usually this would be a recipe for disaster, but surprisingly, Fabian Nicieza manages to pull it off; presenting the important information (and again in every following issue, somewhat annoyingly) while still moving the story forward. I'm not overly familiar with legion characters, but this did a good job of introducing the subgroup and setting their story into action. By the end, I was genuinely interested in what was going to happen with them and their antagonist, a metavirus plague that has been unleashed in the modern day (milennia in their past). Better than I e... morexpected going in.
review 2: Like Legion of Superheroes, this was not great. The whole legion set-up would seem to negate the need for code names, so the fact that people are interchangeably called by their given and code names is unnecessary and oddly annoying. They managed to give contextual references to everyone's powers except Dawnstar, who I can't for the life of me figure out what she does. Every issue recapped their main plot, which was very obnoxious. (How many people did they think were just going to jump in at issue 3, 4, 5?) And the paramount rule of time travel is that you have to explain your rules or else no one will be on board. They didn't, so that aspect of their dilemma meant little to me. Really, the best issue was the last, which was largely stand alone story. I know the next few issues will deal with the Culling. I wonder if that will mean more to me now that I am more familiar with this team...unlikely though. less

Finding out that this leads into The Culling explains my dislike for the volume.

This is one of the stupidest books that DC has put out in a long time.
