review 1: Another book I became aware of because of seeing it on hold at my library. An obvious choice since I have enjoyed other works by the author/artist. Also, I've recently read way too much manga about romantic relationships between girls, often in girls schools, and this had a similar appearance. Unsurprisingly it is not shojo-ai, but it was still an enjoyable read. Fairly conventional story of a new kid having a hard time fitting in at school, but well written and structured. It would have been interesting to see more characters and how they interact with Jun, but there wasn't really room for it of course. Also, I am left curious as to what Emily's goals are, that she sees Jun as a threat to them. She implies that she has some long-term goal, but her motivation seems to be j... moreust petty need for social control of those around her. Also, curious how her lackeys were punished, if at all. It probably would have been a more effective punishment to make Emily keep her distance from them than to keep her distance from Jun and Cassie.
review 2: Juniper begins her school year at the very exclusive Ellsmere Academy. She is there on a full scholarship, a fact she is dismayed to learn is common knowledge. And right away she makes an implacable enemy of the school's resident mean girl. The "war" here is one that will be all too understandable to many readers. Some people believe wealth makes them inherently superior, and behave accordingly. Jun is a wonderful character-fully fleshed out and layered. She has plenty of faults, but she is very believable. I loved the relationship between Jun and her mother, and Jun and her roommate Cassie. Cassie was a very relatable character; wealthy in material possessions, but poor in family. Her delight in being included in Jun's family gathering was very touching. There is a small fantasy element here, used to good purpose, but for many readers this story will resonate all too realistically. less
