review 1: I utterly loved this book! I am so thankful that my friend (and fellow author) Jen Pence recommended this series to me. This book is everything a really good urban fantasy should be. There's just the right amount of romance and fighting, legendary creatures, mystery, and supernatural creatures. Jane Yellowrock is such a wonderful character, too. She's strong, smart, skilled, and tragically flawed--just the way I like my heroines.I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys richly detailed, fascinating characters and exciting, fast-paced plots.
review 2: This is my first Faith Hunter book. Read Bloodring immediately after. It'll take a while for me to read the next book, in this series, simply because I'm not sure I can stand the eventual relationship betwee
... moren her and her love interest. Almost had to put the book down when I thought their relationship was going to end up dominating the book. Phew...Absolutely adore almost ANY other male in the book, except the cook. He's ok. I guess... I would have preferred if she left the town once her job was complete. No point laying down roots or bringing her friends into an unsafe environment.About the story? It was a pleasant idea and an ok read. The story tends to drag a lot, which was my main issue. Her formula seems to be (as I have seen in Bloodring) that she establishes the antagonist, plot and conflict at the beginning of the book, which makes you want to stay and see how and not 'if' it is resolved. She then spends the majority of the book cataloging the lead's daily boring and futile investigation, with info overload, before quickly wrapping up the book in the last few pages. She doesn't actually uncover the truth so much as walk in on it, in the end. Don't get me wrong. I would still recommend reading it. less

Wavered between 3 or 4 stars. It was hard to get into, but ended pretty spectacularly.
